2013, You Are Mine!

At the start of the year, I set some goals for 2013. One of them felt like a long shot, but I went for it:

“Teach a fitness class”

The goal was pretty half-baked. I hadn’t really thought through what kind of class, where, how, what it would take, etc. But, claiming it as a goal forced me to admit that I wanted it – it made me start thinking of what it meant and how it could happen. And prompted me to mention it to my friends. So, enter my friends…

Oh gosh, I love my friends. We do a lot of fun things together and one of them (okay, a huge one of them) is being #funfitfriends together. A few friends have encouraged me to try teaching a fitness class and when I admitted I wanted to, they were all about it. Long (encouraging/loving/special) story short, I led a group of friends in a spin session on Sunday morning.

In preparation for Sunday, I spent my kids’ nap-time on Saturday crafting a playlist and routine. I added songs, debated, deleted, re-worked, added more, and rehearsed over and over how it would go. It felt like a fun, big ole deal and I was so excited to come prepared. At the end of it all, I had a roughly 60 minute class full of tough drills and awesome music.

On Sunday morning at 7am, we met in the vacant spin room at our gym. I brought little speakers and my Spotify playlist. We all had a blast and got a great workout. I felt exhilarated, emotional and stronger than ever. It was so cool to hear myself say things aloud that are so familiar from hearing them over and over in my head. It felt like I was sharing a very deep part of me that has only ever been known by me.

From that deep, full, excited place, I thank you my friends. All of my friends, not just the Sunday riders. You convince me to go for it. You give me courage to move in directions that I wouldn’t without you beside me. Thank you.

I don’t know what comes next, but I sure know that I enjoyed that Sunday morning ride with my friends.
