Cleaning up my body care products (plus $50 Whole Foods gift card giveaway!)

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 presetIf you’re a Hello Day reader, you know that I’m very intentional about what I feed myself and my family. Because, we feel our best when we eat our best. And I want to feel damn good! I prioritize organic, high quality, non-gmo foods, even when they come at a cost. Well, I’ve been slower to commit to those same values when it comes to body/hair/skin care products. I know, it’s silly to take such care about what goes in the body but neglect to pay attention to what goes on the body. Don’t worry, I have excuses. “But, can you guarantee that the natural deodorant really kill the stank?” is at the top of the list followed closely by, “What the hell? $29 for body wash! That stuff sure better wrap my skin in pure gold.”

Well, I’ve finally wised up and started transitioning to more natural body/hair/skin products. First off, I have not done much research of my own, but have relied on what others (for example Andrea and Sarah) have found. #Lazy. Anyways, I’m starting to get smarter on the topic of toxicity in body care and slowly trying out safer products.

Man, it’s expensive to transition everything from body lotion to deodorant to shampoo all at once, which is one reason excuse for it being such a slow go for me. Well, Whole Foods is having two incredible sales this weekend on cosmetics and Whole Body products and I am planning to take full advantage! See the sale details below.

  1. Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10: Whole Foods Market is offering 25% OFF all cosmetics. This sale is nationwide.
  2. Saturday, May 9: Whole Foods Market (in the Pacific Northwest) is hosting their annual 25% OFF Whole Body one day sale. Whole Body Products include cosmetics and sun, hair, skin and oral care and more. (This means you receive an additional 25% off cosmetics on Saturday.)

One of the many cool things about shopping for body products at Whole Foods is that they only sell items that meet their high standards (see Whole Food’s specific Body Care Quality Standards for details). As with the rest of the products in the store, I can be sure that I am buying a safer product with high quality ingredients.

While trying new products is always a gamble, at least the sale allows me to take the risk on a few without breaking the bank. I paid a visit to Whole Foods this morning to meet with one of their Whole Body specialists and scope out some products. I asked Rachel (the Whole Body specialist) a zillion questions about everything from mascara to lip conditioner to a deodorant that wouldn’t make my armpit skin feel like it was glued together. (Meanwhile Vera quietly colored the entire palm of her hand with a tube of bright pink lipstick. Sorry Rachel.) She was very helpful in finding safe and healthy alternatives to products I use on a daily basis. I left today with a list of nearly a dozen items I will come back for when the sale is in full effect on Saturday.

Now, the fun part! Whole Foods is gifting one of you lucky readers with a $50 gift card! I will run the giveaway through Thursday at midnight, so the winner will have the gift card in their inbox and ready to use for the sale this weekend. To enter the giveaway you must do these two things:

  1. Follow @HelloDayBlog on Instagram
  2. Leave a comment (below and/or on Instagram) answering this question: If you could only use one body/hair/skin care or cosmetic product each day for the rest of your life, what would it be? (P.S. Mine is a toss up between toothpaste and chapstick.)

Best of luck to you!

I’m not counting toothpaste. It’s too much of a given. Mascara. I couldn’t live without that stuff. I have a no make-up rule once a week to let my skin breathe, but I admit, I still brush mascara on if I head out the door. I make sure all my products used on my skin or hair (and in my house for that matter) are a 2 or less according to EWG’s Skin Deep site too. I’m pretty sure Whole Foods align’s their buying with EWG too. Oh and the Acure dry shampoo at Whole Foods…trust me, just get it. xx

Toothpaste, it would have to be (though I would miss my lip balm) just for the sake of hygiene.
