May Day, May Day, Send Smoothies

Happy May! I love this month. Maybe because several wonderful people were born this month (you know who you are), or perhaps its the promise of May Flowers, or maybe because June follows May (and Summer begins in June), but definitely because it warms up. Like clockwork, May has arrived and so has the warm sun.

If you’re in Southern California, you know this week has been a hot one. Like, “can I just take my pants off please” hot. Warm breakfasts just would do. No, each day I started off with a nice, cold smoothie. And each afternoon, I cooled off with one as well.  Here’s a roundup of my favorites from the week.

Also, if any of you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you know how I feel about my cheap ass blender. Well, if my blender can handle these blends, so can yours. It doesn’t change the fact that #ineedavitamix #bad.

The recipes below make enough for one mama and two hungry toddlers.

Yummmmmy! What type of protein powder do you use? I’ve thought about trying the TJ brand, but haven’t yet, although I do enjoy their protein shake in a can!

Oh, I’ll have to try the can you mention!

I look for protein powder that is raw, vegan, dairy free, and plant based. So, I swap between brands when the price is right. Right now I am using Garden of Life and really like it. I also like Perfect Fit (Tone It Up), but it is very sweet.

Since you know the paleo diet, what about protein powder? I cannot find one that doesn’t have stevia added, at least the raw, vegan, plant based ones I buy. Do you know of any without any sugar (even stevia)?

And, have we talked about blenders?

We tried (I say we, he uses it in smoothies, I, in cookies and the odd smoothie) Perfect Fit, but like, like you said too sweet and I find it has a nasty after taste thanks to the stevia. At the moment we’re using raw hemp (organic) protein powder which leaves no after taste, just a strange green tinge. Pea protein’s good too. Just 100% hemp or pea. Not sure if you can get it in the USA, but we’re using Pulsin (.co.uk). Thanks you the recipes, I’ll be trying some!

The bodenettes love them all, but the chocolate one is their favorite I think. Of course.
