If Endless Summer ever runs for office, she’ll get my vote. But, as much as I love the spontaneous days of summer, there is something refreshing about the whole back-to-school situation. It’s Friday morning. My kids are both at the elementary school down the street and I am home (alone!!!) catching up on some work and chores. Ahh. It’s nice to be back in a rhythm and routine.
But before I move too far into the next chapter, let’s pause and look back on summer. Because it was a good one, folks.
Summer is a Bodenhamer strength. We nail it. Every damn year. This year in particular I felt an extra dose of motivation to adventure, be spontaneous and explore with our big girls. After all, next summer will look a little different with our sweet baby dude in tow. We maximized our daylight, made last minute plans and did a whole lot of a whole lot of things. It was all things wonderful. Here are a few highlights…
Camping at Lost Lake has become a memorial day camping tradition. Each year it’s the same camping buddies and beloved campsites. And this year the weather was perfection.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Tour 2017
I loaded the car with bikes, bikinis and my two big kids and hit the road for a 5-day tour. We had so much fun exploring southern Oregon and Northern California. We even met up with some of our best buddies in California for a few days. It felt good to go the distance with my girl crew, building memories before the arrival of our sweet little vibe killer.
We tried a new campsite this year in central Oregon. The weather was perfect for lake fun and we made life really easy on ourselves by staying in a Yurt. Next time, we may even have to upgrade to The Suttle Lodge across the lake…
We’re finding ourselves right at home on the Oregon Coast. Especially when the sun is blazing and the air temperature reaches 80 degrees +. We scored quite a few stellar weekends there with friends.
The girls and I spent our fair share of time at the outdoor pool at our gym. The pool was a life-saver for my hot, pregnant bod this summer.
We spent two weeks in California visiting some of our favorite places and people. Isaac and I got away for a few nights in Malibu too. We spent a lot of time in the ocean, hanging with friends and even celebrated our little dude with a baby shower.
According to my five year old, our low-key backyard camping was the highlight of summer. We walked 10 steps, pitched a tent and lit the BBQ. Done. Success. Highlight of the summer. Go figure.
We’re squeezing in one more weekend on the coast before the official end of summer. And then, fall is welcome to come… as is our new family member. I’m sure excited for this next season!
How about you – what was your summer highlight?
